Designer Girl
That gold Fendi clutch. True Religion dark wash jeans. Christian Louboutin peep-toe heels. The entire 2008 Stella McCartney fall line. Nicole Miller sportswear. Chanel earrings. Dior sunglasses. Donna Karan vintage pencil skirts. Louis Vuitton luggage sets. That Coach bag that everyone has. BCBG gold gladiator heels. Vera Wang scents. The plaids of Dolce & Gabbana fall line. The bright sun-dresses of Marc Jacobs. Anything by Manolo Blahnik….anything.
What is it about a designer label, anyway?
Technically, its just a logo, a few gold threads, some foreign-sounding name on a silk tag.
Socially, it means money, social standing, and a status symbol.
Personally, it means you care how you look, what people think about you, how well your clothes fit, and what is in that season.
Honestly, people notice you because of that little label. You feel important, special, beautiful, confident, “in.” Designer.
But can I just bust out with the truth? You, Ms. Modern Girl, are already designer. And it has nothing to do with your shoes or the Italian name on your t-shirt tag.
You were designed by the God if the Universe.
You were created in His image – and in no one else’s image.
Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
You are not only designed by God, but you are His best creation.
Genesis 1:31 “And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.”
Genesis 2:18-20 “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him.”
You were designed exactly like you were supposed to be.
Psalm 139:13-16 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
As modern girls we have grown up in a world of mirrors. We are compared to our friends, our enemies, and our sisters. And even the most stunning of natural beauties falls far short of airbrushed runway models. The size fourteen would kill to have the body of the size eight. The size eight is working herself ragged to looking anything like the size four. The size four is secretly starving herself to complete with her size two and zero sisters. Modern girls are raised to be unhappy with her body, her personality, her brain, and anything else she might have going for her. It’s a vicious cycle, originated by the devil-I am absolutely positive, to make us girls hate how God designed us. And hating who we are and what we look like is not what God designed us to be!
Enough about comparisons, lets get back to the designer talk! How can you tell designer shoes from cheap knock-offs? It’s really not that hard – designer items are unique. The combination of color, pattern, cut, style – makes that dress or shoe completely different from everything else that has ever graced the runway. Each piece makes its own statement. There is no comparison. No self-respecting fashionista would ever try to compare Stella McCartney to Chanel, or Fendi to Prada, or a pair of BCBG heels to Chinese Laundry flats. Each are gorgeous in their own way and absolutely perfect with the right outfit. You are unique design. So, why compare yourself to another of God’s designs?
Live up to your own designer label and stop comparing yourself to the other girls that God designed. He made you exactly as you are because that brings Him the most glory. So be proud of God’s design of you. Thank Him for your uniqueness.
Designer clothing and shoes are set apart by the cut of the style, the quality of the fabric, the uniqueness of the style, and of course – the stamp of the designer all over the piece.
Let people notice you because of God’s unique stamp on your life. You are important, special, and beautiful. Designer.
Live like it. Be designer.
Let God be the one to label you.
